Embed2Scale Tutorial at IGARSS 2026
Embed2Scale will be represented at IGARSS 2026 with a tutorial titled “A Hands-On Introduction to Benchmarking Neural Compression and Representation Learning for Earth Observation”, held on Sunday, 9 August 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m ET.
The tutorial introduces NeuCo-Bench, an open benchmarking framework developed within Embed2Scale to evaluate neural compression and representation learning methods for Earth Observation. NeuCo-Bench originated from the CVPR 2025 EarthVision Workshop Challenge and is designed to allow fair and reproducible comparisons of compression methods without requiring large computing resources.
As the growing volume and complexity of EO data increases the need for standardised, scalable, and reproducible tools that can assess the quality and utility of learned representations across diverse downstream tasks, Embed2Scale representatives and members of the Earth2Vec community will provide participants with both conceptual foundations and hands-on experience to test the quality of geospatial embeddings across different downstream tasks.
Following demonstrations on how to integrate and evaluate recent foundation models within NeuCo-Bench, the session will conclude with a panel discussion on future directions driven by the needs of the EO community.
The tutorial is aimed at researchers, practitioners, and educators working with EO machine learning who seek practical experience in evaluating geospatial embeddings. Participants are encouraged to experiment with their own models and contribute to the ongoing development of NeuCo-Bench.
Registration for the tutorial is available via the IGARSS website.
