Embed2Scale Partners to Present at EGU2026

Embed2Scale partners Damien Robert and Jan Dirk Wegner (UZH) will present their current work at EGU2026, showcasing the use case “Forest Biomass Disturbance Monitoring.”

Their presentation, “Forest Disturbance Monitoring with Geospatial Foundation Models,” explores how embedding‑based workflows can support faster and more accessible detection of forest disturbances such as logging, storms, fires, pests, and disease outbreaks. Existing forest disturbance monitoring systems often require specialised EO and ML expertise, extensive data processing, or important computational resources. The approach presented explores how server‑side geospatial embeddings can reduce some of these constraints.

The contribution shares preliminary results on demonstrating the feasibility of this method for forest disturbance detection and discusses its strengths and limitations.

Overall, the work illustrates how releasing geospatial embeddings as a product or service can lower technical barriers to EO-based forest monitoring and support more timely, inclusive environmental decision-making.
