Organized by ETH AI Center and GainForest, The AI+Environment EcoHackathon is designed to spark interest in environmental conservation and to develop insightful analyses through the use of AI and data visualization techniques to tackle pressing ecological issues, and protect the Amazon Rainforest. The best submissions are deployed in the Amazon during the XPRIZE Finals on July 11th.
AI FOR BIODIVERSITY (TRACK 1)
Goal: Develop innovative AI models that can provide deeper insights into biodiversity. Use machine learning techniques to predict species health, population trends, or ecological impacts. Your models will help researchers and conservationists understand and protect these critical environments better.
What you’ll do: Access a dataset featuring various attributes from rainforest ecosystems, including species occurrence, climate conditions, and geographical data. Build and train models to analyze patterns, predict outcomes, or classify data, contributing to the conservation efforts and scientific understanding of biodiversity.
DATA VISUALIZATION (TRACK 2)
Goal: Create compelling and informative visualizations of rainforest data. Your visualizations should not only be aesthetically appealing but also serve as powerful tools for storytelling and education, highlighting key aspects of rainforest ecosystems.
What you’ll do: Utilize the same rich datasets to design interactive charts, maps, or infographics that illustrate the complex relationships within the rainforest. Focus on clarity, user engagement, and innovative approaches to help viewers grasp detailed ecological data and its implications easily.
